The Spectacular Drakensburg

Our most recent adventure was to see the Drakensburg Mountains. The Drakensburg is the highest mountain range in South Africa, 11,424 feet. In Zulu it is referred to as uKhahlamba, meaning "barrier of spears." It marks the border between South Africa and Lesotho.
Last Sunday Tyler and I took the day and drove out to see the mountains. They reminded me of the cliffs in Hawaii. We took off on an 8 mile hike to see the world's 4th largest waterfall, Thugela Falls. Despite the fact we were a little unprepared, nice clothes and no water, we made it. At times it seemed I was hiking the Subway again in Zions or climbing around in Havasupai! We enjoyed watching Baboon, climbing up steep cliffs on chain ladders, and swimming around in crystal clear water holes. We absolutely loved being able to see more of South Africa!

You can see the Drakensburg in the background. While we were driving through the location we noticed this odd looking house. Pretty awesome! Talk about creativity. Anybody seen Rescuers Down Under?

Here is Thugela Falls. The hike finishes here, which was unfortunate. We were expecting to sit at the base of the falls! But, it's still beautiful!! And just think, Lesotho is right on the other side!
